Customer Questions
How do I know which test to buy?
We offer three tiers of well water testing kits: basic, standard, and deluxe. Our Standard Well Test is one of our most popular kits because it includes a balance of tests for bacteria and chemicals. It's important to test for common contaminants and naturally occurring contaminants such as arsenic, radon, barium, iron, and manganese. If you're still unsure which well water test to purchase, your local health department can give insight into which contaminants are most prevalent in your area.
How often should I test my well water?
Private well owners are encouraged to have their water tested at least once a year. Since there are no regulations requiring regular well water testing, you must ensure the water is safe to drink. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends testing your well water at least once a year for bacteria, nitrates, and other contaminants. Suppose your well is close to nearby waste disposal sites or is prone to flooding and other disturbances. In that case, your drinking water is at higher risk of harmful bacteria and other water quality concerns. If your well is at risk, it's recommended you test your well more frequently to avoid unsafe water.
When do I get the results?
From the time we receive your sample, we estimate about a 7-10 day turnaround to get your results. For kits with more tests, expect longer wait times.
What are the dangers of drinking contaminated well water?
A handful of issues can occur in groundwater that could negatively impact human health. Avoid disease and sickness by ensuring your well is free from toxic chemicals like lead and arsenic. High levels of nitrates can cause health problems, especially for pregnant women. If your well water has Total Coliform Bacteria, it could indicate that other bacteria could be present. Our report will measure the levels of each of these (and more!) to gauge your water safety and help you determine water treatment options.
