Customer Questions
The type of analysis you choose should be based upon your specific concerns, your water source and what contaminates may potentially be in the water. If you are on a city water supply, you may want to test for the by-products of disinfection and heavy metals as they are likely to be in the water. If you are on a private well it is important to test for bacteria as that is a common contaminant, as well as naturally occurring contaminants such as arsenic, radon, barium, iron and manganese.
Water quality can vary greatly based upon natural fluctuations in the water source and the types of treatment techniques utilized by the water department. If you are on a private well, there are no regulations which require regular testing of the water, so you are responsible for ensuring the water is safe to drink. The EPA recommends minimally testing your water at least once a year for bacteria and nitrates.
This will also depend on the type of analysis you choose, as some tests can be performed more quickly than others. We have several Quick Series packages in which results are available within 2-3 days of receipt at the laboratory. For our more comprehensive testing packages like the Well Check Deluxe it does take about 10-12 business days.

FAQs
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can dissolve into groundwater and enter your home through private well water. When released during showering, cooking, or washing, radon gas can contribute to elevated indoor air levels. A radon water test kit helps determine if your water is adding to your home’s total radon exposure.
Anyone who uses a private well should test for radon, especially in regions known for high natural uranium content. Even if you have already tested your air, testing your water is important to understand the full picture of radon exposure in your home.
It’s recommended to test for radon when you first move into a home with a private well and every few years after that, especially if nearby wells or homes have tested high for radon. Retest after any major well work or system changes.
The kit analyzes your water for radon gas concentration. It includes the sample bottle, collection instructions, and prepaid return shipping. Once your sample is received, results are typically ready in 3–5 business days.
Testing is performed in our ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory using EPA-approved methods specifically designed for radon in water. Our procedures ensure precise, validated results you can trust.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed an advisory level of 4,000 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) for radon in water. If your results exceed this level, mitigation may be needed to reduce exposure.
Effective treatments include aeration systems that release radon gas from water or granular activated carbon (GAC) filters that capture it. After installing a treatment system, retesting is recommended to ensure it’s working properly.
