Customer Questions
How do I know which test to buy?
The type of analysis you choose should be based upon your specific concerns, your water source and what contaminates may potentially be in the water. If you are on a city water supply, you may want to test for the by-products of disinfection and heavy metals as they are likely to be in the water. If you are on a private well it is important to test for bacteria as that is a common contaminant, as well as naturally occurring contaminants such as arsenic, radon, barium, iron and manganese.
How often should I test my water?
Water quality can vary greatly based upon natural fluctuations in the water source and the types of treatment techniques utilized by the water department. If you are on a private well, there are no regulations which require regular testing of the water, so you are responsible for ensuring the water is safe to drink. The EPA recommends minimally testing your water at least once a year for bacteria and nitrates.
When do I get the results?
This will also depend on the type of analysis you choose, as some tests can be performed more quickly than others. We have several Quick Series packages in which results are available within 2-3 days of receipt at the laboratory. For our more comprehensive testing packages like the Well Check Deluxe it does take about 10-12 business days.
